Ezine Articles and Your Resource Box

Posted By on November 14, 2009

Recently, Ezine Articles has held up two of my articles because the resource box was too long.

This had me a bit perplexed because within the last couple of months I’ve read in several articles that the article marketing resource box strategy was to write a 300 or so word article and then write a 200 or so word resource box.

Before reading this information I would write a 500-600 word article and include a 100-150 word resource box. It worked fine. Then I shortened my articles and increased my resource box and problems ensued.

While Ezine Articles has a note in their resource box area that states “up to 300 words,” they just informed me that the resource box cannot exceed 15% of the total article. But, 15% of a 500 word article is only 75 words!

Hmmm…

1. Did I have it wrong all along?
2. Did Ezine Articles cleverly change their requirements to counteract the marketers sneaky marketing strategy?
3. Is there a way around this marketing conundrum?

The answer to Question 1 may very well be, yes.

I think the answer to Question 2 is probably, yes. And, the answer to Question 3 is a definite, yes.

There are two ways to go about counteracting Ezine Articles counteracting strategy:

1.    Write a shorter, tighter resource box. Use only essential information that will prompt the reader to click on your site. One marketer’s article mentioned to write something such as: Click here to get a free ebook about such and such. I know I saved the article, but who knows where.  But, you get the idea, short and to the point.  And, the point is to get that reader to CLICK on that link.

2.    Start your resource box at the end of the article. If you’re writing an article on marketing, at the end include several sentences leading into your punch lines. Maybe: There are many resources online to help you gain expertise in the marketing arena. Be sure to choose one that offers expert advice on marketing and promotion. And, be sure it includes a monthly newsletter that you can sign up for – this will ensure you receive updates and tips on a regular basis.

This should help with the pesky problems of a shorter resource box.

Do you have any ideas?
