tricksI’m back with more lesson overviews of Tricks of the Trade; Lesson 5.

Part 1 of this lesson explains the importance of Networking. Never underestimate the power of networking, as Suzanne Lieurance conveys: Networking is important in all professions, but it’s VERY important in the world of children’s publishing. After you learn the basics of writing for children, and you develop your writing skills, it’s not so much WHAT you know as WHO you know that will help you gain more and  better writing assignments. This section goes on to list a number of worthwhile online forums and discussion groups such as The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Once in these groups, it’s important to be an active member. This will increase your visibility and a good way to learn and even get leads to things you’re interested in.

Part 2 of Lesson 5 gives a heads-up on how to find writing assignments and how to get the game going with publishing credits. You will need this information because it is the foundation of your children’s writing career. Getting your first publishing credits is also important for any genre of writing you decide to conquer. In this lesson you’ll also learn how to monitor the articles you publish.

Next onto Part 3: Here you’re taught how to work along with editors. Suzanne includes 6 essential tips for creating an amble relationship with an editor. These tips are crucial to learn and adhere to if you intend to continue to do business with the editor. As with each Lesson in the 6 week course, Lesson 5 has an assignment to help you move forward in you chosen career. Along with this, the lesson includes additional helpful online resources.

Writing is a tough business; writing for children is even tougher. Tricks of the Trade: Learn to Write for Children in Just 6 Weeks! gives you the guidelines and tools you’ll need to build your children’s writing business from the ground up.

I’ve invested in a number of courses and programs and now have the ability to know which will actually help and which I should pass on – Suzanne Lieurance’s Tricks of the Trade is a worthwhile and affordable e-course. Suzanne has the knowledge and experience to be a writing coach and teacher; she uses these qualifications to help YOU get going and get published. Along with this practical and detailed e-course you get a 2 month membership in the Children’s Writers’ Coaching Club, so every person who purchases this course has the opportunity to have his/her assignments professionally reviewed and critiqued by Suzanne or another published children’s author on staff at the National Writing for Children Center each week.
