Karen Cioffi Writing Services

Posted By on April 15, 2012

As with all things in business, it’s essential to keep moving forward. Part of moving forward means to take steps to create a focused platform and brand. To this end, DKV Writing 4 U IS NOW Karen Cioffi Writing Services – A Team of Professionals Writing 4 U.

http://karencioffifreelancewriter.com/karen-cioffi-writing-services/

The reason behind this move is to, as mentioned above, create a focused, recognizable platform. While I know what the DKV stands for on this site, no one else does. This creates a weak link in branding the Writing Services as part of my platform.

So, as any good marketer would do, I took the team, created a new website, a new name, and moved forward to establish a unified ‘Karen Cioffi’ platform.

A logo is in the process. When it’s done, I’ll post a TEMP logo until the ‘real’ one is done!

And, we’ve added a new team member, Mindy Crump (graphics designer) and have added a couple of new services: website construction, ebook cover design, and log design.

Another added feature to the new site is it has a number of GREAT ebooks and programs on writing and marketing:
http://karencioffifreelancewriter.com (Simply check the sidebar titles that interest you).

We’re ready, able (experienced and professional), and willing to help you move on up.

So, please stop by http://karencioffifreelancewriter.com/karen-cioffi-writing-services/ and check out our new site and additional services. We look forward to seeing you there.

Content Marketing in English – Do You Need Help?

Posted By on October 8, 2011

We’re pleased to announce that we now offer rewrites for content marketing.

If English isn’t your first language, or you’re not good in English grammar and spelling, you will absolutely benefit from our rewriting content marketing service.

Along with an understandable and informative article, article directories insist on good English grammar and spelling, including punctuation. Without these elements, your article will be rejected by the top directories . . . the directories that count.

Realizing a number of article marketers are not ‘English as their first language’ writers, we saw the need and have a solution that will get your articles accepted by the top article directories.

All members of the DKV Writing 4 U team have English as our first language and know proper grammar, sentence structure, and so on. We are all article marketers, so also know how to use keywords in articles for SEO effectiveness.

This is a winning combination for your content marketing efforts.

Along with article rewrites, we can rewrite any content, including e-books, white papers, and newsletters, so your information, whether being offered as a ‘freebie’ or for sale, is top notch.

Ghostwriting Services for eBooks, White Papers, and More

Along with the new rewriting content marketing service, we also provide ghostwriting services for your content needs. Give us the topic, the format you want, and the keywords (if needed, we can find relevant keywords) and we’ll create an effective product.

Create and Sell eBooks – A Free Workshop

Posted By on February 13, 2011

Most writers realize just how useful e-books can be. From giving away as free incentives to subscribe to your site, to selling them on sites such as Kindle, Smashwords, and Lulu, they increase visibility and can earn you an income. They are a great marketing tool and simple to create.

Thanks to Suzanne Lieurance, the Working Writer’s Coach, I have the opportunity to offer a free chat workshop at: http://workingwriterscoach.com

Having created a number of e-books, I thought it would be helpful to offer a workshop like this to help other writers create an e-book to offer on their sites for an enticement to answer the call-to-action, or to publish and earn money.

Details for the Free eBook Chat Workshop:

Date: Friday, February 18, 2011
Topic: Tips for Creating Your Own Ebooks
Time: 7:00 – 7:15 Central Standard Time (5pm PST and 8pm EST)

Date: Monday, February 21, 2011
Topic: Basic Tips for Selling Your Own Ebooks
Time: 7:00 – 7:15 Central Standard Time

Date: Wednesday February 23, 2011
Topic: Selling Your Ebooks – Broadening Your Reach
Time: 7:00 – 7:15 Central Standard Time

So, just click on the Working Writer’s Coach link. Once you get to the site, scroll ALL the way DOWN to the red copyright area. The very last words, at the very bottom of the page will say “WordPress Log in.”

Click on the Log in link and sign into WordPress, or create a free account.

If it brings you to a Profile Page, just look on the upper left side of the screen for Writing Coach – “The Working . . . ” (it’s right above the word “Dashboard”). Click on that link – it will bring you to the Working Writer’s Coach site signed in and ready to chat.

Once on the site, scroll down, looking on the right sidebar for “Live Chats with the Working Writer Coach.”

You may get directly onto the page with the first Log in link, but for some reason I keep going to the Profile page.

As a bonus, for those who join in and contact me, I’ll be giving my e-book:
How to Create an eBook: 5 Simple Steps

I hope to see you there!

Eczema and Bleach Baths: Ghostwriting Example

Posted By on February 7, 2011

Occasionally, we’ll post the type of business and health articles we ghostwrite. This is to give you an idea of our writing style and versatility. Today we have one about allergies:

Eczema and Bleach Baths
by Karen Cioffi

According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema, “is a chronic (long-lasting) disease that affects the skin. It is not contagious; it cannot be passed from one person to another. The word “dermatitis” means inflammation of the skin. “Atopic” refers to a group of diseases in which there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever.”(1)

The most common symptom of AD is very itchy skin, which the patient usually ends up scratching. This can lead to redness, swelling, cracking, and discharge, which then crusts and scales. Sometimes the affected area will become infected.

Staphylococcus aureus colonization and infection is a common complication of (AD), due to defective epidermal barrier and decreased antimicrobial peptides.(2)

The treatment for this type of infection is a two-week course of cephalexin (antibiotic), and then a diluted bleach bath. Interestingly, “irrigation with dilute bleach was first used for infected wounds and as a perioperative antiseptic during World War I.”(2)

The AD bleach bath is believed to kill bacteria growing on the skin. This helps reduce the itching associated with AD, therefore reducing the other symptoms. Usually, the bleach bath is most effective is used in combination with other AD treatments, including medication and moisturizers.

The Mayo Clinic recommends the following dilution for best results:

• Add 1/2 cup (118 milliliters) of bleach to a 40-gallon (151-liter) bathtub filled with warm water.
• Soak the affected areas of skin for at least five to 10 minutes.
• Dry your skin thoroughly and apply a thick layer of moisturizer.
• Take a bleach bath no more than twice a week.3

It should be noted that bleach baths can cause dry skin, so it’s best to discuss any type of AD treatments with your doctor.

3 Self-Publishing Tips

Posted By on January 22, 2011

Self-publish Your Books - Image courtesy of MorgueFile

With today’s oversaturated and tight publishing market, it’s difficult to find even a small publisher for the manuscript you’ve slaved over. Many authors have taken the matter into their own hands and are going the self-publishing route. But, have vision! This can be a worthwhile venture…if you first know a couple of things:

1. Self-publishing will usually cost you money

If you choose a company that will print the book for you, such as print-on-demand, subsidy, or co-publishing companies, this will be an absolute. How much money will depend on the company you choose and which of the various services they offer that you buy into. And, there will be many aside from printing your book: editing, cover design, copyright, distribution, press releases, promotion, and so on. Each of these additional services will cost you more money, although most of these companies do offer package deals. I know writers who have spent under a thousand dollars and others who have spent over five thousand dollars to publish their book.

While digital mediums, such as Smashwords, Lulu, and Amazon’s Kindle can cost next to nothing to publish, you need to know or learn marketing and work at it endlessly to sell through these avenues.

Selling books in general is a TOUGH business, but it’s tougher if you don’t have the support of a traditional publishing company behind you.

So, be sure to hone your marketing skills.

2. Join a critique group before actually publishing

You’ve decided you want your book published no matter what. Well, that’ fine, but before you start think about which company to use to self-publish, JOIN A CRITIQUE GROUP; it is essential. I do reviews, editing, and critiques, which requires reading a number of self-published books and manuscripts. What is evident in these stories is that many authors are unaware they need to have an edited, polished manuscript before they think of going the self-publishing path.

When choosing a critique group, be sure there are new and experienced (preferably published) writers as members, and it needs to focus on the genre you write in. In a critique group, you’ll quickly begin to see, through critiques of your work and that of the other members, how writing should be done. You’ll begin to spot grammatical and punctuation and storyline errors – you will begin to hone your craft. The group will help you polish your manuscript and you’ll be amazed at the difference.

3. Self-Publishing Tools You’ll Need to Use

The above is just the tip of the self-publishing iceberg. Along with a critique group, you should belong to a couple of writing groups, work toward honing your craft (this includes reading books in the genre you write), and take advantage of writing blogs and writing conferences. All this will help you create a better quality book . . . one that you’ll be proud of.

And, it’s always advisable to have your manuscript edited as a final insurance. Often, the company you go with to self-publish will offer editing services. Just price it compared to hiring your own freelance editor.

Lastly, make sure the entire package, from cover, to interior design, to illustrations, is also up to standard.

10 Essential Steps to an Effective Website – Part 2

Posted By on January 15, 2011

In Part 1 of Create an Effective Website: 10 Essential Steps, the first four steps were discussed. Those steps are: The Name of Your Site; The Sub-heading; The Opt-in Box; and The About Me Page.

Today we’ll move on to the remaining steps, numbers five through ten.

5. The Media Page

Create a Media Page. This page will tell visitors what you’ve written and other qualifications that make you an expert in your field. You should also include your books, reviews of your work, brief synopses and possibly excerpts, links to the sales pages, testimonials and awards, links to interviews others have written on you, events/workshops you’ve presented, your appearances, and links to all your other sites.

6. The Contact Page

Your contact information needs to be available. This means having a Contact Page that offers a contact form, or your email address. A visitor may have a question, comment, or request for your services; you want that visitor to be able to know how to reach you.

7. The Resource Page

Probably the second most important factor that will make visitors find your site valuable is providing a Resource Page. This page should provide links to pertinent books, sites, and tools related to your niche. Visitor will appreciate the effort and information, thereby making your site of value to them. It will also prompt them to link to your site, and recommend it to others.

8. Keep Your Site Focused

Keep the content you post to your site pertinent to that site’s niche. Think of your site as a target; you want to keep as close to the center of that target as possible. So, if you’re writing for children, keep your posts geared toward children’s writing. If your site is about cooking, keep the posts geared to cooking related content.

If you begin to dilute your main focus, you will begin to lose credibility as an expert in a particular area. You don’t want to be know as ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’

9. Provide Valuable Content

While the Resource Page may be the second most important factor for adding value to your site, CONTENT is the number one factor. Make your content informative and helpful to those reading it and they will return for more.

Also, be sure to post great content on a regular basis and promote each post through your social networks.

10. Take Advantage of Article Directories

A final tip is to also post your content to article directories. This will help increase your visibility and traffic to your site. Directories such as EzineArticles.com and AssociatedContent.com are great places to start. Just be careful, some directories, such as Suite101 require original content (it cannot be previously published) and you cannot reprint the article for a year.

So, pick and choose which directories are best for you – there are plenty to choose from.

Happy marketing!

10 Essential Steps to an Effective Website – Part 1

Posted By on January 7, 2011

Marketing in an oversaturated market is a difficult journey. Whether you’re promoting a book, services, or other product, you will have tons of competition. And, if you don’t have a website, you won’t be able to get in the marketing game.

No matter what product or service you’re offering, having a website is an absolutely must.

While it’s not that difficult to create a website or blogsite using services, such as WordPress (http://wordpress.com) or Blogger (http://blogger.com), there are essential steps you will need to take in order to create an EFFECTIVE site.

Here is Part 1 of a list of the 10 most essential and bare-bottom basics that are needed for an effective website:

1. The Name of Your Site

Create a site with your name as the domain name. Even if you already have one or more sites with different names, take the time to create one with your name. This can be your central site that leads to your other specific platforms. Think of it as the Sun to your other orbiting web planets.

2. The Subheading

When including a site subheading, think of your platform. In your subheading add keywords you want associated with your site. These are words that should quickly inform the search engines what your site is about. If you have multiple sites, include them on your Media Page and on your About You page.

3. The Opt-in Box

Provide a readily visible opt-in box. This is one of the only ways you will be able to create a mailing list. A useful way to entice visitors to sign up for your info emails or newsletter is to offer a free gift. Usually an e-book related to your site’s focus is a practical gift.

The opt-in box should be placed in the top portion of your sidebar, and must be immediately visible upon landing on the page – this means it needs to be above the fold line.

4. The About Me Page

Let the visitors know who you are with an About Me Page. This is especially important on your sites that do not use your name as the title. There are so many sites where a visitor needs to search to see who the site belongs to – it can be a bit frustrating. There are even some sites that do not offer this information, or it’s possible the owners have it so well hid visitors can’t find it.

The About Me Page should include a bio along with any pertinent schooling and/or training. Most visitor want to who is posting the content and what qualifies them to offer that particular information.

Next week we’ll have Part 2, so stay tuned.
